Touching Story Of Fire Victim-Turned-Filmmaker
Three years in sick bed after a ghastly fire accident, life seemed hopeless but not for Ilesanmi. Even when doctors gave up on him, he remained resilient and determined to achieve his dream. Ilesanmi’s story is one that does not only elicit empathy but also awakens one to the harsh realities of life.
Akerele Ilesanmi, a 24-year-old promising Christian filmmaker, storyteller, and scriptwriter is a young Nigerian youth whose amazing talents no doubt leave one wondering.
Born in Ekiti state, the storyteller who is very passionate about film and Drama storytelling recently narrated his story and venture into filmmaking to Ecclezzia.com.
His journey into storytelling began a few years back after a relative of his brought him to Lagos State. But, life in Lagos was not as he had expected and he had no choice than hustle for himself.
His strong desire to also train in one of the Nigerian Universities also did not materialize though he still has high hopes for the furtherance of his education.
Ilesanmi said, “The journey of my life and filmmaking so far has not been funny. I will compare it with the road that leads to heaven. “You know the road that leads to heaven is narrow. One needs to experience a lot of things to get there.”
Ironically, Akerele’s path to discovery of purpose was in sickbed after he had a serious fire accident that almost claimed his life. His situation seemed hopeless but God was on his side
“After G.C.E, I had fire accident and spent three years in the Hospital. Doctors thought I had gone. There was no more hope for me to live. This frustrated my academics and entire life”
“After I returned from the hospital, I started the mission of preaching the Gospel. During my sick period, I discovered what God wanted me to do. God sent me to Ile-Ife to preach. And I obeyed.”
“I also discovered that God charged me with preaching the gospel through storytelling and movie making ministry two years back and I started working towards it.” He said.
That was when the journey to storytelling and filmmaking, according to the music lover began.
“I wrote a full movie produced in Ekiti. The title of the movie is “Aiyetoro” Some of my friends made up the casts. The movie is still being edited in Ekiti and would be released to the market when we are done.”
“The movie is about a village formerly known as Iyapa Village. All they did there is farming. God raised a king to change the whole village and there was a huge transformation. You need to check it out, it is very interesting and informing”
Very keen to achieve his God-given vision, Akerele founded a storytelling and filmmaking group which at present is still growing, according to him.
Speaking about his crew, the young visionary said, “We shoot films and go to schools to tell moral and godly stories in Drama. Many lives have been affected for God through this.”
“We are about 16 crew members. We knew one another from secondary school. I started with just one of them. When others saw what we were doing, they were interested and joined us. I serve as the leader of the Crew.”
The promising comic actor who stars mostly as an old man revealed that his crew have been experiencing a lot of challenges but was optimistic they would get there someday.
With soul winning as his vision, the filmmaker who also doubles as a professional cook said that finance was a major challenge to the vision but he knew God would definitely make ways for the work.
Akerele seeks supports from Christians. He is urging Nigerians to buy into his vision of soul winning stressing that, that was the most important thing in life.
