Healthy Foods That Will Improve Your Child’s Memory
As I got home from work on a particular day and there running towards me, with her round face and white eyes raised at the sight of me, smiling like one who just got a truck load of chocolate delivered at a her feet, jumping in excitement, opening her pink lips to reveal well arranged white sets of tiny milk teeth, held together by black gum saying to me ‘Aunty I ate chin chin and drank juice yesterday ( she meant today) , mummy put it in my bag, I finished it”.
“Oh! Wow that is great”! (with the same excitement as hers on my face too, even though I was very exhausted from work, coupled with Lagos traffic that nothing seemed to have been the cause, yet I had to conceal it and respond to her warm greetings which of course was a way of telling me how her day went at school and how she appreciates what her mum does for her Mondays through Fridays. Such is the case of my niece Tobechukwu.
This is how I get to know what went into her lunch box everyday and it has been going on this way since she discovered how to express herself, thereby creating a bond between us. It helps me relax too. I can imagine how her mother feels each time she does that. Kudos to her mum.
Children are very lovable beings and they love enjoying themselves too. Try taking a child to a supermarket, he/she would rush to the candy section because they love anything that makes life sweet! Mothers should learn to give their kids healthy foods, snacks to boost their performances. Studies have shown that kids who take healthy foods, snacks are more active and sociable than their peers. They function properly when they eat healthy meals.
Here is a list of 5 healthy foods, snacks that will help improve the memory of your child:
Whole grain cereals. A bowl of whole grain cereals is packed with vitamins, minerals like calcium and fibre. Perfect for a healthy and yet fun snack as a lot of whole grain cereals now coming with different flavors and colors.
Healthy pastries. Whether it is fruit cakes and bread or sandwiches and muffins, You can afford to sneak in fruits and vegetable into your child’s diet with lots of tastiness surrounding it. Kids love adventures.
Noodles. The average Nigerian child is a big fan of indomie. Pasta, a class to which noodles belong is very rich in carbohydrate and is easy to prepare. It can be served with vegetables to add more “health” to the food. (Just add a boiled egg to it and my niece would trade me for the noodles). Lol!
Smoothies. Kids get excited over tasty drinks most especially. One of such tasty drinks is smoothies and very healthy too as it is made from fruits. The versatility of smoothies, mixing of different fruits – leading to a whole mixture of flavours is definitely exciting not only to kids but adults too. Do not add artificial flavour, rather allow the pure nature’s goodness nourish their body.
Chips. Chips made from plantain, sweet potatoes are another class of healthy snacks for kids that can replace biscuits as they are equally very crunchy and attractive. ( The crunchy sound of this snacks from the mouth of my niece can wake a dead soul ).
I hope this will replace the junks we feed them. Healthy kids are happy kids.
